Patients With Migraines Are More Prone To To Suffer From Depression

Patient suffering from chronic headache, especially migraine, are in a greater number likely to suffer from depression disorder, feel fatigued, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a clinical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical investigation involved 1050 people who buy citalopram at headache clinics in nine different countries. Of the woman tested, 331 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 656 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were diagnosed with migraines.

The clinical study found women with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Psychotic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among man diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical investigation found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the man also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should agitate or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Atypical Depression complicates headache treatment and can excite poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was supported, in part, by the American Headache Society, which values 18 million American man are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 16000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better people care through enlightenment and clinical trial. A neurologist is a general practitioner with a wide knowladge of diagnosing, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
